The Lough Swilly Ferry service between Rathmullan and Buncrana will run this summer 2012
Weekends: from the 1st June 2012
Daily: from 22nd June – 2nd September 2012
Councillors have agreed that there will be a subsidy of €50,000 this year from Donegal Co. Council towards the cost of running the Swilly ferry and also the service between Greencastle and Magilligan in Co. Derry which recommenced recently having been off during the winter.
Details of the service from Rathmullan to Buncrana will be worked out in the coming weeks. It is expected that the service will operate from June until the end of August or early September.
Clarifying the issue – which led to stormy scenes at the February meeting of the council – Co. Manager Seamus Neely stated that the amount of the subsidy earmarked for the support of ferries is €50,000.
This is made up of €25,000 from the Letterkenny electoral area and a similar amount from the Inishowen electoral area. However, there are no prerequisites about how the money will be used. With the Lough Foyle Ferry Company operating both services the money will effectively go into one pot.
