Portsalon Golf Club was established in 1891 and is one of the founder members of the Golfing Union of Ireland, the oldest golfing union in the world. This wonderful links course remains one of Irish golf’s best kept secrets.

Not only is Portsalon a magnificent test of golf, its setting is truly breathtaking. The golden sands along Ballymastocker Bay and the majesty of Lough Swilly and the Inishowen Hills beyond provide the backdrop for almost 7000 yards that will enthrall and challenge any golfer. Redesigned in 2001 by Pat Ruddy, dune lined fairways, cannily placed bunkers and well protected greens are the hallmark of Portsalon. You will wonder then, why there are no crowded fairways or difficulty arranging tee times and why green fees are so very, very reasonable.

A Classic Links Course
This is what Irish links golf is all about. Portsalon represents a throwback to what the great courses such as Lahinch and Ballybunion were like before they became renowned the world over and before demand for tee times grew beyond their wildest dreams. The course simply exudes character and charm, does not suffer from any pretensions of greatness and offers all visitors a warm welcome and the opportunity (lest we forget) to play a wonderful links.

Portsalon is a course blessed by nature, with most of the course set in glorious duneland along the shores of Lough Swilly. It is a course that should not be underestimated even by the most experienced golfer. Portsalon Golf Club is now sharing the limelight with the Donegal, Sandy Hills and Glashedy as the best courses in the north-west.
